My name is Andreas K Georgiou and I was born in Birmingham, England. After completing school in Birmingham I studied at Sutton Coldfield College earning a BEC National Certificate with distinction in Business Studies. I then completed a Accounting Foundation Course at Birmingham Polytechnic earning a distinction in accounting. After joining a local accounting firm in Birmingham , I set on the path for qualifying as a chartered accountant which i achieved in 1990. I then taught for 1.5 years at Sutton Coldfield College before emigrating to Cyprus in 1991. After completing my army service I was a lecturer for 7 years at a Larnaca college and left in 1999. During this time a produced a number of publications on the Cyprus Securities Markets. After leaving the college I set up my own private tuition centre in accounting until in 2003 I joined The Frederick Institute of Technology as a lecturer. In 2007 I was transferred to Frederick University as teaching staff. During this time I started a Doctorate in Professional Studies at Middlesex University which I successfully completed in September 2010. My thesis is on corporate governance, family businesses and perfornmance and a publication in a journal from a reputable publishing house is to be included in a forthcoming issue.
During my working and academic career I was involved in systems management. One such achievement was my very influencial role in designing a degree program at Frederick University. During my career in the accounting profession I was assigned many tasks requiring systems improvements in clients accounting and internal controls.
It should also be mentioned that I was a financial correspondent for the Cyprus Financial Mirror for the years 1994-2002 writing articles on firms listed on the Cyprus Stock Exchange and an moderator (second examiner) for the taxation paper for the professional exams of the Assocaiation of International Accountants.
